Lorraine Kelly has shared that creating her second book has been a "difficult" process as she's struggling to put her thoughts into writing. The 64-year-old presenter released her first novel The Island Swimmer last year and today confirmed she will be following it up with another.

Speaking with journalist and author Jojo Moyes on her show today, Lorraine seemed inspired by her success and revealed that she could perhaps take up one of her BBC Maestro's courses, which breaks down her writing tips and tricks over 25 lessons.

Intrigued at the idea, Lorraine admitted she probably should've taken a class to help with creating her characters instead of sitting in a room and writing from her head. "Sometimes that's the best way," Jojo chimed in, reassuring her there were no rules. Lorraine replied: "You sort of self edit as you go along don't you."

On the topic of her second book, Lorraine admitted it had been "so difficult" to put the thoughts in her head into action and went on to tell Jojo she may join her course. Previously speaking about her career change, Lorraine said she was "curious" to explore a new path ahead of turning 65 later this year.

Inspired by her mum Anne, she credited the 82-year-old for encouraging her passion for literature having taught her how to read and write with books and newspapers.

She told Hello! Magazine: "That was probably the best gift that my mum and dad could ever give to me.

"We might not have been rich as far as money goes, but in terms of education, culture and appreciation of books, we were."

Lorraine went on to say that having a lengthy career in broadcasting had also helped with her writing after many years of absorbing and editing information.

Lorraine reveals that she's a grandmother

Additionally, the mother-of-one said she was "well aware" that she got the opportunity to write her first novel due to being in television, but stressed it was essentially harder as she had "more to prove".

"It's almost as if you’re pushing against that door and the door opens, but then you've really got to prove yourself and that's fine. I'm comfortable with that," she added.

Ahead of turning 65, Lorraine has another new chapter to look forward to as a grandmother following her daughter Rosie's baby news.

The 29-year-old announced last month that she is set to become a mother for the first time with her boyfriend James.

To share the news, Rosie posted a picture of her blossoming bump and was swiftly inundated with congratulatory messages.

Expressing her excitement shortly after, Lorraine told her 538,000 followers: "The most exciting thing to have ever happened in our family.

"Cannot wait to be a granny and so proud of Rosie and her Steve. It's the best news ever".

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV and ITVX.
