judge sparked backlash with viewers at home after pressing the coveted for a Japanese dance troupe in a surprise move.

The judge, known for his critical eye, was blown away by Cyberagent Legit, a Japanese dance troupe whose members have been united in rhythm since they were toddlers, but others aren't home weren't as impressed.

Cyberagent Legit, donning dazzling red and silver costumes, travelled all the way from Japan, driven by their admiration for Simon Cowell. They shared before their performance, "We love Simon! That is why we are here... this is the biggest audition for us. Our dream is to perform around the world, if we won it would be amazing."

Their performance was nothing short of spectacular, with flawless synchronisation that captivated the audience and earned them a roaring standing ovation, along with unanimous praise from the judges.

Amanda Holden was astounded, describing the act as "unbelievable" while Simon Cowell exclaimed, "Amazing! That was fantastic, that was my favourite act of the day actually. Really, really, really good."

The crowd's chants for the golden buzzer crescendoed until Simon stood up and granted Cyberagent Legit their golden moment. Viewers at home echoed Simon's sentiment, with one fan tweeting, "That was the best dance act that's ever been on #BritainsGotTalent. Dare I say it, even better than Diversity. The level of synchronicity was off the chart."

However, others weren't as impressed as one said: "Good...but not 'golden buzzer' good," while another added: "Beats tbe burping American but never going to win. Another waste of a golden buzzer."

A third chipped in: "Unpopular opinion: golden buzzer should be axed from #BGT, it’s just stupid icl because they would’ve got through anyway, pointless."

A fourth said: "Golden buzzer. Total set up," and a fifth agreed: "Big let down for that to be Simon's golden buzzer."

Meanwhile, some fans were left annoyed as they watched Cyberagent Legit, beatboxing group called Sarukani, a drone operator called Keiichiro Tani on the episode, who were all from Japan.

Despite there being no rules about where the acts come from, some viewers vowed to go to Ofcom as they raged it might as well be "Japan's Got Talent" in cruel remarks.

One said: "They must think people are stupid, they fly a hand picked dance group from Japan and then give them the golden buzzer so they can come straight over for the semi finals, fix.”

Another added: "Did ITV get a group booking for a flight from Japan? Or is this Japan's got Talent?" as a third asked: "Can Ofcom look at this like the trade descriptions act?! A very misleading name for a TV show!"

BGT continues next Saturday at 7.30pm on ITV1.
