’s partner, , opened his eyes to a new experience when they began dating.
While recalling how she landed her role in The Last Showgirl, Song, 36, got candid about showing Culkin, 44, the inside of a Costco for the first time.
“I had just dropped off my son at preschool and was with Mack. We were sitting at Costco and it hadn’t opened yet,” she told Bustle on Tuesday, January 7, of getting the gig. “Mack was sitting there going, ‘Babe’ — he had never been to a Costco before we started dating — ‘We’re sitting in a Costco. I’m wearing Crocs. Costco’s not even open yet. You’ve tamed the beast, honey.’”
She continued, “And I was like, ‘How dare you, sir!’ And my agent calls me and she’s like, ‘Hey, I have this really great script for you. Do you have a second? What are you doing?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I’m sitting in the parking lot at Costco before it opens.’ She goes, ‘I need to get you a job.’”
Culkin and Song met while starring in Changeland, which premiered in 2019. Two years before the movie’s release, the pair sparked romance rumors when they were spotted on a double date at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California.
While the Home Alone star and Song have kept their relationship out of the public eye, they have given some glimpses of their romance. “[The relationship is] great!” Song exclusively told Us Weekly in September 2018. “I don’t like to talk about my personal life, but everything’s wonderful and I’m happy.”
The couple welcomed son Dakota in April 2021. The following January, Us confirmed that Culkin and Song are engaged after she was spotted wearing a ring on her left hand in Beverly Hills. “They are and always have been very in love with each other,” a source told Us.
Culkin and the Disney Channel alum went on to welcome son Carson in December 2022. The next year, Culkin was celebrated at his Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony with his family in attendance — and gave a sweet shout-out to Song.
“Lastly, but not least, I’d like to thank Brenda. You’re absolutely everything. You’re my champion,” he gushed of Song. “You’re the only person happier for me today than I am. You’re not only the best woman I’ve known, you’re the best person I’ve ever known.”
Now, as Song begins her second act, she recalled Culkin thinking she was “insane” for believing the best of her career was behind her. As she prepared for the change, Song parted ways with her managers and publicist.
“Family life is the most important thing,” she told Bustle, “but I’ve always said to be the best parent, the best partner, I have to be the best me. And a huge part of that is work. I have to be able to honor that.”
