Tangled has become the latest Disney film to receive a live-action rendition. Set to be in progress at the studio, Disney has confirmed that filmmaker Michael Gracey, who also directed The Greatest Showman, is leading the live-action with a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Robinson has been credited for Netflix's campy dark comedy Do Revenge as well as Thor: Love and Thunder and the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot.
Disney is reimagining the 2010 animated movie that was inspired by the Brothers Grimm story of princess Rapunzel, known for her magical long hair. In 2010, the film was an animated and musical hit and saw Mandy Moore voice Rapunzel. The plot followed the princess who was eventually rescued from her secluded tower by an outlaw named Flynn Rider. At the time, the flim garnered $592 million USD at the global box office and had Oscar-nominated songs like "When Will My Life Begin." The animated show as so popular that Disney gave it spin-offs including the 2012 short film Tangled Ever After and the 2017 TV series Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure.
Disney has recently added a long-list of animated films that will be receiving a live-action iteration. In the past films like The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mulan and The Little Mermaid have received live-action treatments. Coming up next is Snow White starring Rachel Zegler as well as Lilo & Stitch and Moana.
