Last summer, AVI-8 joined forces with Capcom for their first-ever watch collaboration. Following the success of that, the two brands reunited once again, revealing the Flyboy 1942 Automatic Pixel Limited Edition — their newest collaborative timepiece inspired by Capcom’s 1942 video game from the ‘80s.
While their previous release incorporated 8-bit aircraft motifs for a touch of retro nostalgia, the latest unveiling takes the aesthetic up a notch with full-blown pixel graphics. Paying homage to the original game, the custom-molded 3D dial boasts a pixel-like texture and pattern, complete with decorations and Arabic numerals in a matching font.
A total of three variants are offered, spanning Silver Ace, Gunmetal Ace and Midnight Ace — each sporting a different dial design. Silver Ace features a stainless steel build with a black bezel and dial, while Gunmetal features a build in its namesake hue, creating a striking contrast with hits light blue sky. As for the Midnight Ace, the watch comes in a blackened appearance, complete with a tonal bezel and dial. It’s also the only variation depicting the aircraft carrier that appears at the start of each stage in the original game.
Arriving in a 41mm case size, the watches run on a Japan-made automatic movement with a date function. All editions are paired with a 5-link engineer-style steel bracelet, as well as a complimentary leather strap. Available for sign-up now through AVI-8’s website, the Capcom-collaborated watches will officially launch on September 27, priced from $385 - $395 USD.
