MANIERA Presents a New Furnitu

Presented by MANIERA, Japanese architect Junya Ishigami has unveiled a new furniture series on the occasion of Milan Design Week.

Spanning chairs, tables, partitions and lamps, every piece from his furniture series follows through with Ishigami’s design philosophy and language. From architecture to furniture, the element of lightness also permeates the pieces, evoking an interplay of delicacy, simplicity and elegance through the understated nature of his chosen materials: leather, rattan, wood, glass and steel.

Despite the toughness and rawness that’s often stereotypically associated with some of the aforementioned materials, these have been reimagined in a refreshing and airy manner. Through the ample use of thin lines manipulated in both rigid structures and subtle corrugations, Ishigami crafts an experiential conversation between furniture and its surroundings.

The Zaisu low chair and the glass table from this series were originally conceptualized for Ishigami’s cave-like House & Restaurant in the city of Ube. Meanwhile, the partitions, atelier table along with the other tables and chairs are designed for the House project that’s currently under construction and is intended to be the home of Ishigami’s mother.

The new Junya Ishigami furniture series will be on view as part of Alcova's Milano lineup, as spotlighted in our must-sees for Milan Design Week. Located in the Parc of the Villa Bagatti Valsecchi, the series will remain on view until April 21, 2024. After that, the series will be displayed at MANIERA’s gallery starting April 25.
