A North York man, 41, is facing a handful of charges after a bizarre incident of impaired driving in a motel parking lot south of Goderich.

According to police, the man exhibited signs that he was impaired by alcohol and even consumed alcohol while talking to the officer. The driver was then asked to get out of the vehicle, but after learning he was going to be arrested he got back into the truck.

Additional officers responded but police say he still refused to comply and was physically resisting arrest. The officers then used a conducted energy weapon and during the ensuing struggle, the man allegedly tried to disarm the officer of the weapon.

The man was eventually arrested and taken to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. Police say both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

A 41-year-old North York man has since been charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, resist peace officer, and attempt to disarm a peace officer.

His vehicle has been impounded for a week and his licence suspended an automatic 90 days. A court date has been scheduled for March 25.
