A man was killed and two others were injured after a ‘senseless’ shooting in a residential area in Sydenham, south London.
The emergency services were alerted at about 10.10am today after reports of a shooting in the Wells Park Road, SE26, area.
When officers and the ambulance service arrived at the scene, they discovered a man who had been shot and injured.
Despite the best efforts of the ambulance crews, he died at the scene.
A woman was also shot, suffering injuries to her legs.
She was rushed to the hospital where she remains with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.
A third person went to the hospital with suspected gunshot injuries, but his condition is yet to be confirmed, Metropolitan Police said.
So far, there have been no arrests.
Detectives are working to find out the victim’s identity and to contact his family.
A post-mortem examination will be arranged, the force said.
Commander Peter Stevens said: ‘I know people will be shocked by this senseless act of violence, all the more so on a Sunday morning in a residential area. I share their concerns and can assure the local community that the Met’s response, alongside our partners, has been rapid.
‘We are determined to safeguard the community, to get to the bottom of what happened here and bring those responsible to justice.
