Five new Netflix sequels coming sooner than you think - including Happy Gilmore 2
As a new year approaches, a whole new collection of new films will be expected to hit Netflix, including a good amount of sequels.
However titles set to grace the streaming service in 2025, could well include some that even the well informed subscriber may have forgotten they're on the horizon.
Many of these titles are still awaiting a confirmed release date, but most are anticipated within the coming year.
They include eagerly awaited follow-ups to delayed releases and sequels to some of the platform's biggest film hits.
Here are some of the films Netflix viewers can look forward to in 2025, plus one that might be a bit further down the line.

The Old Guard 2
The sequel to the Charlize Theron-led superhero action flick was initially expected in 2024. The first film, adapted from the comic book of the same name and penned by the same author, has encountered some production hiccups, reports the Daily Record.
Theron confessed she needed a bit of 'resting time' after the first instalment but was eager to work on a sequel. Netflix gave the green light in 2021 and brought on a new director. Although filming was reportedly completed back in 2022, additional shooting was apparently required and took place in October this year.
Netflix held back from including the film in any promotional material for 2024 releases, but hopes remain high for a 2025 release.
Happy Gilmore 2
Adam Sandler's repertoire on Netflix continues to expand annually, boasting a diverse range of critical acclaim. From the less-than-stellar Murder Mystery to the outstanding thriller Uncut Gems, and even a heartfelt return to stand-up comedy, all available on the streaming giant.

Christopher McDonald and Julie Bowen are also slated to reprise their roles from the original film. Happy Gilmore 2 is anticipated to land on the streaming platform in summer 2025.
The Gray Man 2
This sequel might be a bit further off than 2025. The first Gray Man was an action-packed flick that saw the Russo brothers reunite with former Captain America, Chris Evans.
They were joined by Ryan Gosling, with Evans portraying a fallen-from-grace ex-CIA agent-turned-mercenary, tasked with taking down Gosling's criminal-turned-CIA agent.
Despite not being a hit with critics, it found some favour among Netflix viewers and boasts a 90% popcornmeter rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Joe Russo confirmed earlier this year that a sequel is still in the pipeline.
However, he and his brother have also committed to directing two more Avengers films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it remains to be seen when they will complete production.

Troll 2
The first Troll film remains the most popular non-English Netflix original movie on the platform. It's no wonder that less than a year after its 2022 release, Netflix gave the green light for a sequel to the Norwegian monster flick, which has been a hit with fans of films like Godzilla and King Kong.
Production began in November this year, with the sequel expected to be available for viewing in 2025. Director Roar Uthaug, whose follow-up to the 2018 Tomb Raider was cancelled, is believed to have focused all his efforts on Troll 2.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
Following the enormous commercial and critical success of the original Knives Out, Netflix secured director Rian Johnson with a lucrative deal. The murder mystery was hailed by fans as one of the best ever made.
The sequel, Glass Onion, had a limited cinema release before arriving on Netflix around Christmas 2022.
The third instalment will see Daniel Craig reprise his role as Detective Benoit Blanc to solve a new mystery. Titled Wake Up Dead Man, the sequel will once again boast a star-studded cast including Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, and Mila Kunis.
