EastEnders' Linda Carter faces grim fate as fans fear the worst after dramatic episode

EastEnders' star chats about show's 40th anniversary

EastEnders viewers were left on edge as pub landlady Linda Carter (played by Kellie Bright) known for her battle with alcoholism, was found unconscious in the Square's garden following a day of high drama.

The episode, which aired on Wednesday (December 11) and is now available on iPlayer, saw Linda hit rock bottom. Her close friend Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) was left fuming after discovering her home had been burgled and Albie's presents stolen due to Linda's blunders.

Sharon also berated Linda for hiding wine in her cup and soiling the bed sheets while drunk, leaving the Watts family at their wits' end with her antics.

She demanded that Linda apologise to Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) for stealing wine from the Minute Mart, and to her son Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff) for neglecting her children.

While at the Minute Mart, Linda apologised to Alfie for her actions, but he questioned whether she would revert to her aggressive behaviour when she drank later, reports MyLondon.

Linda responded with a barrage of insults towards a distressed Alfie, leading his partner Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) to intervene.

On Bridge Street, Linda hid behind a market stall when she spotted Johnny taking a walk with his little sister Annie. When Linda approached Johnny and Annie, she falsely claimed she was sober, but her son quickly withdrew with Annie.

Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa), a recovering alcoholic now battling a painkiller addiction, noticed the distress of Linda and picked up her half-sister Annie's dropped soft toy.

During the Beale's Eels Santa float event, a tipsy Linda took centre stage by climbing onto the float where Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), dressed as Father Christmas, was seated. She pretended to kiss him, resulting in Ian falling off the float.

Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) intervened to assist her down from the float, but she quickly became the subject of ridicule following another embarrassing episode.

Upstairs at the Queen Vic, Phil and Lauren confronted Linda with some harsh realities about her situation, encouraging her to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting with them. They finally persuaded Linda to admit that she is an addict.

Johnny also expressed his fears about the potential of his mother's death leaving Ollie and Annie without parents. However, he soon insisted that his mother leave the pub, declaring that he wouldn't let her damage their family any further and she could return once she had changed.

Zack Hudson (James Farrar) then stopped Linda from re-entering Sharon's house. A heartbroken Linda cried out that she needed a friend "after everything" she had done for Sharon, before stumbling away alone.

At the cafe, Bernie (Clair Norris) told Linda she would forgive her for Keanu's death if she prioritised her family and quit drinking.
