The newly created role will work in tandem with the university’s chief information and digital officer (CIDO) Jonathan Covell.

According to Macquarie University, the new CTO will “lead the design, implementation and execution of a new product-based IT operating model.”

“The CTO role will also be responsible for developing and rolling out the university’s technology strategy, aligning with broader strategic mission and priorities,” a spokesperson said.

This will “help shape the future of IT partnerships at the university”, the spokesperson added.

In a job posting, Macquarie University said the new CTO would lead digital transformation initiatives and foster a culture of “innovation, high performance, efficient operations delivery”.

The CTO will also manage budgets, vendor relationships and “ensure compliance with data governance and cyber security standards”.

Last year, Macquarie University promoted Covell from his position of deputy CISO to CIDO. Earlier this year, it began a hunt for a new CISO to replace the outgoing Jeremy Koster.

Its website now lists Andrew Wan as its current CISO.
