BBC Antiques Roadshow host Fiona Bruce 'auditions' for Strictly Come Dancing with judge

Antiques Roadshow: Anton Du Beke gives Fiona Bruce dancing lesson

Antiques Roadshow host Fiona Bruce has auditioned for Strictly Come Dancing with fellow judge Anton Du Beke.

Last year, the 58-year-old ballroom expert appeared on the BBC teatime show where he brought in his Glitterball trophy and a tuxedo jacket to be valued by experts.

Before he showed off his glamorous items, he managed to convince the broadcaster to dance with him outside Belmont House in the heart of Kent.

The mum-of-two quickly showed off her dodgy footwork as the dancer explained the basic steps in a Foxtrot before finishing off by pulling her into a low dip as the crowd applauded.

Taking to Instagram, the show’s bosses cheekily captioned the clip: “#FionaBruce auditions for #Strictly with #TheAntonDuBeke.”

The newsreader turned down a chance to star on the show back in 2015 because the dance competition is too “formal” for her.

The broadcaster, who has spent more than a quarter of a century at the corporation, is regularly touted as a contender for the dance show.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, she admitted: “The call has come many, many times. I’ve always said no. Not because I’m snotty about it but that structured formal dancing is so not me. I just want to get down on the dancefloor.”

Strictly has had success in the past with newsreaders, with Susanna Reid and Natasha Kaplinsky both taking part in the BBC One dance show.

It comes after Strictly fans called for head judge Shirley Ballas to be sacked after she gave a “flawed” performance a high score.

Last weekend, the BBC show returned to Blackpool to dazzle viewers with their impressive routines. Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystal hit the floor with a Cha Cha to the tune of Right Said Fred’s I’m Too Sexy.

The former TOWIE star rocked a pair of skin-tight pick PVC trousers as he strutted across the infamous spring dancefloor.

Most of the judges were unimpressed with the star’s routine, with Craig Revel Horwood branding his dance “uncoordinated”, adding that he was “behind musically.”

Meanwhile Motsi Mabuse admitted: “I loved it for all the wrong reasons. I would watch it over and over. I’m still trying to figure out what’s happening here.”

However, Shirley found plenty to commend, giving Pete and Jowita an eight as she gushed: “You had some very good isolation, you had a very good neck line... Your hips were swinging left and right.

“It was very entertaining. I don’t think I’m going to forget this evening for a long time.” Disappointed with her comments, fans flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to complain.

One user penned: “Need Shirley to leave after this series/ So f***ing unprofessional. Pete gets ‘very entertaining’ for that.” Another agreed: “Shirley losing all credibility as a judge” as a third quipped: "I need Shirley's head judge status removed."
