Sophie Turner to Star as Lara Croft in New 'Tomb Raider' Amazon Series
Sophie Turner has a new project up her sleeve and this time, the Game of Thrones alumni is set to lead Amazon Prime Video's new Tomb Raider series. Variety has confirmed that the Turner is slated to star as the lead role of Lara Croft in the Phoebe Waller-Bridge-produced series.
While the deal has not been fully closed just yet, Turner is set to be the titular tomb raider. The Waller-Bridge series was greenlit at the streamer earlier this year under her overall deal with Amazon. She is set to write and executive produce. Turner becomes the latest actress in the long list of high-profile celebrities who have taken on the role of Lara Croft. The series first originated as a video game and gained great popularity over the years. Previously, Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander took on the role of Lara Croft, the globetrotting adventurer.
Turner has been best known for her role as Queen of the North aka Sansa Stark in HBO's Game of Thrones. She previously played Jean Grey in the later Fox X-Men films and recently starred in Joan, ITV and CW's miniseries and Max limited series The Staircase. At the time of writing, it has not been revealed when production will begin.
