Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Set Official Release Date for 'Masters of the Universe' Live-Action Reboot

The much-anticipated Masters of the Universe live-action has officially moved from Netflix to Amazon. Together, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel have also set an official release date for the upcoming film, but fans will have to wait until summer 2026.

Directing the film adaptation is Travis Knight. Chris Butler is penning the script alongside David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee while Mattel's Robbie Brenner, Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing. According to the synopsis of the film, the live-action introduces a 10-year-old Prince Adam who crashes to Earth in a spaceship. Upon the crash, he is separated from his Magical Power Sword which is the only item that connects him to Eternia. The synopsis reads, "After tracking it down almost two decades later. Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!"

So far the casting for the project has yet to be announced. Back in 2023, Variety reported that the Netflix will no longer be moving forward with the project after spending almost $30 million USD on developing the project. Meanwhile, Mattel Films is only just beginning, with the major success of Barbie. In development are live-actions for Barney, Bob the Builder, Polly Picket and more.

The Masters of the Universe releases on June 5, 2026.
