BBC Homes Under the Hammer's Martin Roberts horrified by 'unpleasant' discovery in house

BBC's Homes Under the Hammer presenter Martin Roberts was left aghast by an 'unpleasant' find upon entering a house on the show's latest episode. The 60 year old property guru, originally from Warrington, co-hosted Thursday's programme with ex-footballer Dion Dublin, as they ventured to the Midlands to explore the first property up for grabs.

Initially taken by the Staffordshire building's facade, Roberts' enthusiasm quickly soured when he entered and was hit by an overpowering odour of animals. Wrinkling his nose in distaste, Martin remarked: "The first thing you notice is this overwhelming smell of animal. Even just glancing around, there are lots of signs of this place being shared by humans and canines. Downstairs loo has lots of scratch marks."

But the stench was merely the beginning, as Martin's inspection led to another revolting revelation in the kitchen, which he candidly described as something that "just feels wrong."

In a shocking segment that left viewers gobsmacked, Martin couldn't hide his disgust as he pointed out: "Look at this. Actual dog hairs in the grease above the cooker. That is wild. Well that wasn't very pleasant."

Despite the grim find, Martin had some good news, noting that the house's issues were mainly cosmetic and not beyond repair for an ambitious buyer. Enter Katie and AJ, a recently retired couple ready to tackle the renovation challenge, who snapped up the property for £99,500 paying £9,500 more than the asking price.

After considerable effort, the once-dingy dwelling was transformed into a beautiful three-bedroom home, earning praise even from the usually critical Martin.

The couple's hard work paid off handsomely as the value of their revamped abode soared to an impressive £175,000 - £185,000 post-renovation.

Martin crunched the numbers and revealed that Katie and AJ could be looking at a profit exceeding £60,000 if they decided to sell. Alternatively, entering the rental market could yield them a monthly income of between £775 and £800.
