The One Show host Alex Jones shares son's in hospital as he undergoes surgery

The One Show: Alex Jones discusses parenting young children

The One Show's Alex Jones revealed that her son Kit, four, has undergone surgery. The Welsh BBC TV presenter took to Instagram to share the news with her 354,000 followers.

He had the procedure in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. In her post, Alex expressed gratitude towards the NHS staff.

She shared a picture of the youngster sat in his hospital bed while he read a book. She didn't disclose what the surgery was for but she accompanied the image with the caption: "Kit has been in for a little op this morning.

"Firstly, a HUGE thank [you] to the wonderfully kind nurses and doctors @chelwestft. Simply the best for paediatric, and also to @mykidsgoodreads. Kit chose a book which cheered him right up."

She also shared another image of a man, who appeared to be a staff member, alongside a shelving unit in the hospital, which contained a selection of books. In the caption she praised the charity Read for Good, whose logo was on the bookshelf.

Alex and her husband Charlie Thomson tied the knot in a stunning ceremony at Cardiff Castle on New Year's Eve 2015. They are also parents to son Teddy, seven, and daughter Annie, two.

The couple recently appeared on The Travel Diaries podcast with Holly Rubenstein and gave an insight into their relationship.

During the chat, Alex reminisced about their first trip as a couple to Lake Como, which took place just "six weeks" into their relationship.

The presenter revealed that what was supposed to be a romantic three-day getaway quickly turned into a comedy of errors when they missed the last boat home and ended up sleeping on a bench.

Despite the mishap, Alex said they now look back on the incident and "laugh their socks off", describing it as a situation that sums them up in a "nutshell".

"We always think back to that night and laugh our socks off because actually that really does sum us up, having a great time and mised the ferry, that's basically us in a nutshell."

It comes after Alex shared, on the same podcast, that it was a "thirst for adventure" that saw the couple winding up together.

She said: "I think the reason my husband and I are together is because he loves travelling he is a little nomad."

The One Show airs on weeknights at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
