Magpie Murders will be making its debut on BBC One this weekend, with the six-part series described as a "murder mystery within a murder mystery". The drama has now been renewed for a second season which will be based on author Anthony Horowitz's second novel, Moonflower Murders. has all there is to know about the cast of Magpie Murders season one.

Who stars in Magpie Murders?Susan Ryeland - Lesley Manville

Susan Ryeland is a book editor who is given an unfinished manuscript by author Alan Conway.

As she delves into the book, she reluctantly starts to take on the role of an amateur sleuth to solve a mystery.

Actress Lesley Manville has been in films such as Topsy-Turvy, All or Nothing, Vera Drake and Mr Turner.

Netflix subscribers will recognise her for playing Princess Margaret in season five of The Crown.

Atticus Pund is the clever 1950s detective who features in Alan Conway's novel.

He is described as a "compassionate gentleman" and a German refugee of Greek-Jewish descent, who survived the concentration camps.

Actor Tim McMullan has also featured in The Crown, as well as The Queen, Shakespeare in Love and Grantchester.

Most recently, he played Charles McIntyre in the movie Enola Holmes 2 last year.

Actor Conleth Hill is probably best known for playing Lord Varys in Game of Thrones, lawyer Edward Darby in Suits and Mendel Liberman in Vienna Blood.

He also starred in the 2022 series Holding on ITV, based on the book by presenter Graham Norton.

Hill is behind author Alan Conway, who is seen to be "prickly" to those around him.

He isn't shy about turning people from his real life into caricatures of themselves for his books.

Charles Clover - Michael Maloney

Charles Clover is the head of the small publishing house Clover Books where Susan works.

He is currently in negotiations to sell the company so he could begin his retirement and spend time with his grandchildren.

Actor Michael Maloney has been in popular series like All Creatures Great and Small, Midsomer Murders and Father Brown.

His film credits include Sir Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Henry V and The Young Victoria.

Classics teacher Andreas Patakis used to be an instructor at the same private school as Conway and is now Susan's thoughtful boyfriend.

Actor Alexandros Logothetis has been in The Durrells and The Island.

DI Chubb and DS Locke - Daniel Mays

Actor Daniel Mays has been in a plethora of shows over the years, some of which have been Des, Line of Duty, Good Omens, Code 404 and White Lines.

He is playing two characters in Magpie Murders: the first is DI Chubb, a policeman in Conway's novel and the second is real-life DS Locke.

Mays' Locke clashes with Susan when she starts investigating Conway's death herself.
