With a weekend off from Southeastern Conference play, the University of Alabama softball team will host one its recent postseason rivals, Washington, for a two-game series at Rhodes Stadium.
Overall, the two programs have only met nine times, but six have been in the NCAA Tournament, and four have been in the last two years.
Alabama lost to Washington in the 2007 Seattle Super Regional, but Alabama won both the 2015 Tuscaloosa Regional and twice in the 2016 Tuscaloosa Super Regional.
The last time the teams played in Tuscaloosa during the regular season was the 2009 Easton Challenge. They split two games.
Alabama (37-9) is coming off a 2-0 victory against Southern Miss, and is ranked No. 12 in both the USA Today/NFCA poll and No. 10 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.
Washington (32-10) visited UAB on Thursday and posted a 6-0 victory. The Huskies are ranked No. 9 and 10, respectively.
Alabama is No. 14 in the official NCAA RPI (ratings percentage index) rankings, which are used in determining postseason seeding. Washington is No. 4.

What you should know Washington is just 6-4 on the road, but the Huskies are coming off a series win at Oregon, where they handed the Ducks their first two home losses of the season. Sophomore Taran Alvelo was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week after starting all three games at Oregon, notching 22 strikeouts over 19 innings. She threw two complete games, allowing just eight runs on 12 hits for a 1.84 series ERA. Alvelo is 19-, with a 2.28 ERA and 136 strikeouts. Casey Stangel leads the Huskies in hitting with a .387 batting average and 46 hits. She’s also tied for the team lead with nine home runs. Alabama freshman catcher Bailey Hemphill was named one of 25 finalists for the 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year on Thursday. Alabama is 32-2 this season when scoring first, and 21-0 when it scores in the first inning. For the season it has outscored opponents 38-10 in the first inning. Alabama next visits Samford on Tuesday to close out its non-conference schedule. Next weekend it visits Ole Miss.
