Mike Krzyzewski now knows what Frank Martin has known about for a while.

South Carolina is slowly adapting to the roundball game.

The Gamecocks basketball coach gave a heartfelt thanks to the USC faithful late Sunday night after his team moved out of the first two round in Greenville, muscling past Marquette and then downing Duke.

Thank you fans!! @FrankMartin_SC with a message for #Gamecocks before leaving the arena last night. pic.twitter.com/Bozp9X6v0T

“Gamecock fans, just before I get in my car and makes this drive from Greenville back to Columbia,” Martin begins in the message, “I gotta say thank you. You guys, once again, took over the Bon Secours Arena. That’s three times we walk out on this court in the last two years that this is a home court for us.

“The 13th-leading team in the country in attendance, and you guys just are just unreal, and it’s a pleasure to be your coach. Our guys love playing for you.”

The message was posted on Monday from the USC basketball Twitter account after thousands of USC fans made the trip to Greenville, which is about 100 miles away from Columbia.

South Carolina won its first NCAA Tournament game in 44 years, running away from Marquette, 93-73.

The seventh-seeded Gamecocks then knocked off second-seeded Duke, many experts’ favorite to win it all, in the second round by a score of 88-81.

Sindarius Thornwell had 29 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in the Marquette win, and then added 24 points, six rebounds and five assists against the Blue Devils.

Martin and the Gamecocks will return to action with an East Region Sweet 16 battle against third-seeded Baylor on Friday night. The 7:29 p.m. E.T. tip-off will be from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

We’ll really see how well the Gamecocks faithful travel then.
