This movie will combine your love for fashion and psychological thrillers
It’s the film on everyone’s lips at the moment. Psychological thriller Personal Shopper – starring Kristen Stewart as a twenty-something American in Paris working as a (you guessed it) personal shopper trying to uncover ghostly secrets. Here are five things to know about the fashion spine-chiller before you see it.
The film was inspired by Kristen Stewart and constructed around her, with the actress evolving her own role. She is in almost every scene and mostly appears by herself. It also might just be her best performance to date.
It is based in the Parisian underground of the fashion world. Director and screenwriter Olivier Assayas - who won the award for Best Director at Cannes Film Festival last year - has said that he has always had an ambivalent relationship with the industry. His interest in it started young - his mother was a designer when he was a child, most notably for Hermès.
Scenes from the film were shot in the press room of Chanel, as well as in the Louboutin and Cartier stores in Paris, to make it as realistic as possible.
Karl Lagerfeld is said to be a fan of Assayas's films, which is why he allowed for it to be filmed in the prestigious press rooms of the French fashion house.
Unsurprisingly for a film about fashion, there are some notable costume choices. One of Stewart's standout ensembles is a white silk and silver embroidered Chanel dress from the pre autumn/winter 2014 collection.
