BATON ROUGE, La. — Fresh off its first SEC postseason title since 1981, the LSU gymnastics team is headed to postseason play.

The No. 2 Tigers will be the top seed at the Lincoln, Neb. Regional on April 1. LSU’s chief competition at the meet will be No. 11 Boise State and No. 14 Nebraska, the host team. Arizona, Iowa State and  Minnesota will also be competing in the regional. This regional is one of six across the country. The top two schools from each regional will move on to the National Championship in St. Louis, Mo. on April 14-16, where the 12 teams will be whittled down to six on the first day of competition, then the “Super Six” will compete for the national title on Day 2.

With a season-long Regional Qualifying Score of 197.865, LSU is second only to Oklahoma (RQS 198.010) among teams this season. Along with Oklahoma and No. 5 UCLA, LSU is one of just three teams to have posted a single-meet score of 198.000 or better this year. LSU has done so twice, while UCLA reached the mark once and Oklahoma did so four times.

Counting last weekend’s SEC Championships, the Tigers went 20-1 this season, including an impressive 8-0 SEC regular season record to secure the first SEC Regular Season Championship trophy ever awarded. Led by senior Ashleigh Gnat and junior Myia Hambrick, LSU posted a score of 198.075 in the SEC Championships, edging out then-No. 4 Florida (now No. 3) by a sizable margin.

After her third Perfect 10 of the season and ninth of her career — tied for the most in school history — Gnat was awarded three SEC titles and ranks as the No. 1 vault competitor in the country. Hambrick grades out as the No. 8 all-around competitor in the country and sophomore Sarah Finnegan, who also competed the all-around at SECs, ranks as the No. 4 balance beam worker in the nation.

The LSU gymnastics team finished second to Oklahoma at the Super Six last season, earning the school’s first national runner-up title. This year’s squad is an average of almost two-tenths better per meet by RQS. RQS is scored by taking a school’s three best road/neutral meets and next three best meets, which may be on the road, at home or at a neutral site, dropping the top score and averaging the next five together.

LSU’s counting meets this season are as follows:

SEC Championships: 198.075
vs. Iowa and George Washington: 197.975
vs. New Hampshire: 197.875
at Arkansas: 197.700
at GymQuarters: 197.700

As ticket, TV, stream and radio details about this meet are revealed, this article will be updated to reflect this.
