New Facebook Option Allows Food Ordering Right From App

Credit: hypebeast.com

Facebook once again looks to widen its market at become a one stop shop for just about everything you would want on the internet after the introduction of a new feature that allows individuals to order food from nearby restaurants right from the app. Facebook made reference to this earlier this year, when they announced a partnership with both Delivery.com and Slice. Users on Twitter were surprised to see it pop up randomly on their Facebook app, with some users are reporting that the "Order Food" icon is also appearing on Facebook's website, giving you the option to order food from your computer as well. According to those who have used the service, every step of ordering food is done through Facebook, including looking at menus, checking daily specials and payment.

As of right now, it looks like the feature is only available in certain areas around the world. This is one of the many business strategies the social media giant has embarked on over the past while. Most recently, the platform announced it would be live streaming regular season MLB games every Friday, as well as introducing a lineup of new, original shows to compete with business like Netflix and Hulu. With Facebook making more and more of an effort to find new ways to add on to their network, it will be interesting to see what they come up with next.

Harvard Grad Obasi Shaw Submits Rap Album as Final Thesis, Graduates With Honors

Harvard grad student Obasi Shaw has paved a new scholastic path, graduating from the Ivy League school with honors after submitting a rap album for his final thesis. The 10-track album titled Liminal Minds -- which is the first-ever in Harvard's illustrious history -- took over a year for 20-year-old Shaw to complete. Each song is told from the perspective of a different character, supposedly inspired by Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales and Shaw's mother. It focuses on black identity in America and was awarded summa cum laude minus, which is the second highest grade in the department. After graduating, Shaw will be working for Google as a software engineer. Check out the album below. Harvard has also added Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, as well as Nas’ Illmatic to its library for their "cultural significance." Obasi Shaw '17 submitted Harvard's first rap thesis, "Liminal Minds," which combines elements of Middle English poetry with issues of racial identity in America. “[African-Americans are] free, but the effects of slavery still exist," says Shaw. "Each song is an exploration of that state between slavery and freedom.”⠀ ⠀ After graduation, Shaw will move to Seattle for a one-year internship in software engineering. As for rap, he’ll keep it as a treasured hobby. “Rap is a genre in which I can say everything I want to say,” Shaw said. “I’ve been writing in different capacities, but I never felt that I found my art form until I started rapping.”⠀ ⠀ #Harvard #Harvard17 A post shared by Harvard University (@harvard) on May 18, 2017 at 1:11pm PDTClick here to view full gallery at Hypebeast.com

Blizzard reveals a semi-pro league ahead of ‘Overwatch’ League

Overwatch League is getting its own developmental league for teams and players who are almost-but-not-quite ready to make it to the big leagues: Overwatch Contenders. Blizzard announced the Overwatch Contenders developmental league today, offering aspiring Overwatch pros a chance to hone their skills and show off their talents to Overwatch League teams in a structured competitive league. The Contenders league kicks off this summer with Season 0 — open to anyone in North America and Europe — to determine which teams will be competing in Contenders Season 1. Overwatch Contenders is kind of like a cross between League of Legends' Challenger Series developmental league and Minor League Baseball. Teams in Contenders won't have a chance to steal an Overwatch League team's spot like League's Challenger Series teams do. Instead, individuals (or potentially entire rosters of Contenders teams) would get signed by an Overwatch League team. Facebook vs. the internet cesspool: The ugly fight of our ugly times

Where platforms, social technology, and the internet at large are concerned, over its brief history, Facebook's been the exception to so, so many rules.  Except for one. "There’s no silver bullet for abuse. It’s just a constant area of focus. Unfortunately abuse is human nature," Kayvon Beykpour, CEO of Periscope, explained over coffee back in January, when asked point blank about abuse on the platform.  Months later, we now know just how much Facebook has worked to get a handle on abuse, and get it right—and also, just how far they are from that goal. On Sunday, The Guardian published a trove of leaked documents from Facebook detailing the social network's moderation guidelines.  Read more...More about Tech, Business, Facebook, Censorship, and Social Media

New Acura NSX "Beginnings" Short Film Exposes the Rigors of Professional Racing

In a new Acura NSX short film, dreams of becoming a race car driver start early for a young boy in his rural hometown. The visual, named "Beginnings," was written and directed by Italian director Alessandro Pacciani and follows a child as he becomes a young adult pursuing his passion for professional racing. The Acura NSX serves as the perfect hybrid sports car for the film's main character to use as he trains for an event, displaying his heartache and hard work towards becoming a champion race car driver. The video even accomplishes to channel the spirit and essence of Ayrton Senna, who helped develop the original NSX back in the late '80s and is regarded as one of the greatest Formula 1 champions in racing history. The 2017 Acura NSX boasts three electronic motors, a 3.5 L twin-turbo V6 engine, nearly 600 horsepower, and can reach speeds of 191 miles per hour. Curva red is the slick colorway of the car within the short. Acura's supercar NSW rivals classic models like the Corvette, Porsche 911, and the Audi R8. It retails for approximately $160,000 USD.
