AUBURN, Ala. — Sophomore wide receiver Kyle Davis missed all of spring practice for Auburn football due to what Gus Malzahn called “personal business.”
But the Auburn head coach said in a radio interview Thursday he expects Davis to be back in action for the Tigers when they open fall camp.
“Yeah, we do,” Malzahn said on The Cole Cubelic Show. “We expect him back and ready to go.”

Auburn initially expected Davis to return to the team during spring practice. However, he never returned to the field. Malzahn said March 21 that Davis “will be back for the fall.”
Davis, a former 4-star wide receiver prospect from Georgia, had the second-most receiving yards among returning wideouts last season with 248 yards and 2 touchdowns on 12 catches. He projects as a top receiver in new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey’s revamped passing attack.
Throughout spring practice, Auburn players and coaches sounded confident in Davis’ ability to return to the team in the fall.
Davis didn’t practice this spring with new quarterback Jarrett Stidham, but Stidham said the two were in contact this offseason.
“We’ve been in touch a little bit,” Stidham said after the A-Day spring game. “He’s got some personal things but I’m looking forward to playing with him this year and getting him back. I think he can really help us and be a big-time football player.”

Senior receiver Jason Smith and junior receiver Will Hastings said Davis’ absence was apparent throughout spring practices.
“It feels a little different,” Smith said earlier this month. “We really wish Kyle the best with what’s going on with him. We’d love to have him back, add even more talent to the offense, more play-making on the field. It is what it is. I wish for the best. I can’t wait for him to come back.”
“We miss Kyle,” Hastings said last month. “We love him to death. We’re going to see him in the fall. I don’t know when he’s going to be back, but we’re doing good. We definitely miss him for sure.”
