With a weekend off from Southeastern Conference play, the University of Alabama softball team will host one its recent postseason rivals, Washington, for a two-game series at Rhodes Stadium.
Overall, the two programs have only met nine times, but six have been in the NCAA Tournament, and four have been in the last two years.
Alabama lost to Washington in the 2007 Seattle Super Regional, but Alabama won both the 2015 Tuscaloosa Regional and twice in the 2016 Tuscaloosa Super Regional.
The last time the teams played in Tuscaloosa during the regular season was the 2009 Easton Challenge. They split two games.
Alabama (37-9) is coming off a 2-0 victory against Southern Miss, and is ranked No. 12 in both the USA Today/NFCA poll and No. 10 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.
Washington (32-10) visited UAB on Thursday and posted a 6-0 victory. The Huskies are ranked No. 9 and 10, respectively.
Alabama is No. 14 in the official NCAA RPI (ratings percentage index) rankings, which are used in determining postseason seeding. Washington is No. 4.
