Aaron Hernandez allegedly told NFL reporter he would kill him if provoked

Aaron Hernandez’s death has many reporters reflecting on his life, including some stories that may have foreshadowed his violent tendencies.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport told The MMQB’s Kalyn Kahler about a conversation with Hernandez in the New England Patriots locker room that could have been a “red flag.” Rapoport claims Hernandez said he would kill him if Rapoport ever treated him poorly.

“When we first exchanged numbers, he called me over and said, ‘Hey I just want you to know, you’re my guy. If you need anything, let me know. I will help you out if I can. But I just want you to know, if you f— me over, I’ll kill you,'” Rapoport said.

Then a beat reporter for the Boston Herald, Rapoport said he didn’t think Hernandez was serious. He said he and fellow reporter William Bendetson, from CBS Sports, both laughed about it.

However, when Hernandez was later accused of murder, that conversation took on new meaning.

“And then the first text I got after it became clear that Hernandez was the suspect in the murder investigation was from William Bendetson,” Rapoport said, “who was like, ‘Hey remember that day in the locker room?‘”

Hernandez was found dead in his prison cell Wednesday morning. Authorities have officially ruled his death a suicide. He was serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. He had recently been found not guilty of two other murders in 2012.
